Dwight L. Quisenberry, 89, of Okemos, Michigan, passed away after a short period of illness Friday January 12, 2024 at home. Dwight Leon Quisenberry was born July 9, 1934 in Sheridan township, Mecosta County Michigan. He was the son of John Justin and Bertha Marie (Daniels) Quisenberry. His father had been a farmer in Sheridan Township since the late 1920’s. His father was from Cuba Kentucky and his mother from Doniphan Missouri. Dwight graduated from Mecosta Rural Agricultural High School in Mecosta, Michigan, May 1952, and Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Extension in June of 1957. He was drafted into the army in April 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964, serving 2 years in Germany. He started working for the U.S.D.A Agricultural Marketing Service in 1960. He married Norma Jean Anderson on January 27, 1962 in Alpena, Michigan. He started working for the Soil Conservation Service in 1962 serving in Kent, Mecosta, Alpena, Lenawee, Antrim and Lapeer counties before moving into the State Office at Michigan State University, taking a position as the State Conservation Agronomist from 1974-1990, when he retired. Dwight loved taking care of his property holdings, Christmas tree farm, gardening, coin collecting, photography, hunting, fishing, antiquing, and researching family genealogy back to 1290. He helped numerous landowners manage their properties, woodlots and ponds after retirement as well as running an antiquing business with his wife. During his time in the military, he took weekend passes to “hitch” rides to other countries, visiting many European and Middle Eastern countries, he especially enjoyed his time in Israel. After retiring he continued to travel, visiting 8 foreign countries and numerous locations in the U.S.A. Dwight became a born-again Christian in the spring of 1952. He attended various churches and served in many church capacities throughout the years.
Dwight is survived by his children: David Dwight Quisenberry of Birmingham, MI; Luke Anderson and Laura (VanderVeen) Quisenberry of Climax, MI; Carrie Jean Quisenberry of Central Lake, MI; and Thomas James and Lasha (Heise) Quisenberry of Webberville, MI. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Katie Quisenberry, Kyle Quisenberry, Sean (Kayla) Quisenberry, Sarah Quisenberry, Christine Quisenberry, Cassie Quisenberry, Jessica Quisenberry, Joshua Quisenberry, Aaricha (Jerry) Flowers, Ryan VandenAkker, Justin VandenAkker, Aaron Foster, Lexie Yates and one great grandchild Aria Foster. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean (Anderson) Quisenberry, parents John and Bertha (Daniels) Quisenberry, brothers James (Audrey) Quisenberry, John (Ina) Quisenberry, Elbert (Nora) Quisenberry. Sisters Bonna (Roland), Louise, Doris (Perry), and Thelma (Bill), Grandparents Dr. John Joseph Marques DeLafayett Daniels, Nancy Rolla Daniels, James Bivin Quisenberry and Harriet (Dobson) Quisenberry.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 27th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home East Lansing, 1730 E Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI. Visitation will be held from 12-1pm, prior to the funeral.
