David Wood Heeke D.D.S.

David Wood Heeke, D.D.S., age 76, died January 29, 2014. He was born August 27, 1937 in Port Huron, MI to Orville and Helen (Wood) Heeke. He graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1955; attended MSU and graduated from U of M Dental School in 1963 and this past October attended his 50th dental class reunion. On August 25, 1962 Dave married Janet Moran in Flint, MI. Dr. Heeke was a resident of East Lansing and a practicing dentist in the Lansing / East Lansing area for 48 years. He served honorably in the US Army as a Captain in the 88th Medical Detachment in Germany. Dave was a proud 30 + year member of the “Last Man Club.” He loved spending time at the family cottage, “Happy Daze,” on Lake Michigan and followed with great pleasure the activities and athletic pursuits of his grandchildren. Dave was a kind, generous, caring and loving man deeply devoted to his family and active in his community, serving many charitable/professional organizations. His “larger than life” personality brought tremendous joy to his family and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Charles VanAken.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Janet; two daughters Jennifer (Brian) Schlosser, Kathryn (Carl) Buck; two sons, David (Liz) Heeke, Jr., Robert Heeke; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Maxwell and Zachary Heeke; Kathryn and William Schlosser; Katherine and James Buck; sister, Barbara VanAken; sister-in-law, Kathryn Moran; cousin, Daniel (Patti) Brown; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Liturgy of the Word will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 7, 2014 at St. John Church and Student Center, 327 MAC, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
