Beverly Elaine Ferguson

June 22, 1923 - May 10, 2018

As the Lord gave us 5 beautiful days of Blue sky, bright Sun and abundant warmth, the heavens opened up on May 10, 2018 with an incredible downpour of Rain and Lightning. On that morning, Beverly Elaine Ferguson, took her last breath in peace, closed her eyes and rode out on a Lightning Bolt!

It was impeccable timing and very fitting for a woman who traveled the world in fearless style!

Beverly was surrounded by her family and friends as she greeted them with a nod, listened to big band tunes, enjoyed hearing life stories and celebrated her final days in grand fashion. Her Son's George and Lee Ferguson, their wives, Julie and Amy Ferguson and her grandchildren, Megan, George, Mary, Hannah, Jacob and Ben Ferguson were by her side.

Beverly was born in Bay City, Michigan to Frank and Lenah Bower. Her Siblings: Gerry, Jack, Mack, Frank and Ernie enjoyed many great days living near Interlochen and then Lincoln Park as they grew up together.

Bev's love of music would never be denied. She literally forced her way into the Band at Lincoln Park High School and learned to play the most difficult instrument on earth....TROMBONE!

Not only did she learn to play it, she perfected it and earned a scholarship to attend Interlochen Arts Academy before graduating High School. Once she graduated, she hit the ground running and toured professionally with a multitude of Big Bands that crisscrossed the globe for nearly 14 years.

Upon entering Wayne State University as an "Older" freshman (33yrs old) she met her future Husband, George Ferguson, in a Political Science class. Needless to say, the professor hadn't bargained for 2 of the most experienced, determined and "real life" accomplished professionals to "lead" the way for spirited debate!

Beverly and George graduated from Wayne State University and dated for nearly 10 years until they finally married on February 1, 1964. They were together until George passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 1973. Beverly remained single and never remarried.

Beverly's professional career was multi-faceted: She was Professional Musician and multi-instrumentalist, an English, Drama, Speech and Writing Teacher, a Realtor, a Stenographer, a Para-Legal and a published author.

A Celebratory Church service filled with music and fellowship will be held at The Presbyterian Church of Okemos on Saturday, June 2nd. Music and visitation begins at 10:30am with the service beginning at 11am. (11:15am Beverly time....)

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Beverly's memory can be made to the Presbyterian Church of Okemos Music Program or The Friends of Ingham County Parks / Lake Lansing Band Shell / Sounds of Summer Concert Series.
