Alan James Shaw

He was married on January 15, 1955 to Mary Lou (Schlehuber) Shaw who survives him. He has four children, Jill Kercher of East Lansing, Jeffrey (Karen) Shaw of East Lansing, Andrew Shaw of East Lansing, and Coleen (Thomas) Lerch of Mesick, Michigan. He has seven grandchildren, Melissa (Patrick Steiner) Kercher of Graz, Austria, Nicole (Scott) Ranney, Christopher (Micheah) Shaw, Rachel Shaw, Nicholas (Danielle) Lerch, Alex (Kaylee) Lerch, and Jennifer Lerch. He is also survived by his four great-grandchildren, Kyra Ranney, Zoey Ranney, Remey Ranney and Noah Shaw. He had one brother, Dr. Keith Shaw of Des Moines, Washington, who preceded him in death (1992) and a sister, Carol M. White of Lansing, Michigan who survives him.

Alan grew up in Dexter, Michigan until he entered the service with the US Navy during the Korean War period. He then entered the Michigan State Police in 1954 and retired in 1981 after serving at nine locations in both peninsulas of Michigan, retiring as a Division Commander (Captain) at Michigan State Police Headquarters. He worked for the 29th Judicial Circuit and was Security Director for Ingham Medical Center until he again retired in 1996. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Central Michigan Amateur Radio Club. He was a person who believed it was better to give credit to others than to seek it for himself. His greatest passion was that life was full of humor, so enjoy it to the fullest.

Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, Sunday, September 27th from 6-8pm. A Funeral Service will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas, 955 Alton Rd, East Lansing on Monday September 28, 2020 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior, where he was a parishioner since 1974. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing, Michigan at a later date.
