Theresa M. (Rice) O'Brien, 82, of Holden, ME and formerly of East Hartford, CT, peacefully journeyed Home to Heaven on Saturday, (May 15, 2010). She was the loving wife of 42 years to the late Edward A. O'Brien of East Hartford, CT. Born in Bangor, ME on March 4, 1928, a daughter of the late James E. and Marion (Dogwood) Rice, she resided in East Hartford, CT for over 50 years, prior to moving to Holden, ME over two years ago. Theresa was formerly employed by the Underwood Typewriter Manufacturing Company, Hartford, CT. Theresa was a member of the Women of the Moose-Chapter #1470, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #102, and the American Folk Musicians-District #9, all of East Hartford, CT. Theresa enjoyed playing Bingo, and sewing, especially clothes for her neighbors and family. She was also an avid duck-pin bowler at Holiday Lanes in Manchester, CT. Along with her beloved husband and parents; Theresa was predeceased by many brothers and sisters. Theresa is survived by her caring and devoted daughter, Barbara McGrath and her husband, James, of Holden, ME with whom she made her home; a brother, Robert Rice and his wife, Janice, of Bangor, ME; two special grandchildren, Tammy Dudley and her husband, Scott, in China, Christopher McGrath of Philadelphia, PA; five adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, (May 20), at 10:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, (May 19) from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Theresa's memory may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
