Stephen H. Finney, 78, of East Hartford, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018. Born in Hartford on December 14, 1939, he was the only son of Guy B. and Clara E. (Taft) Finney. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley M. (Johnston) Finney; son and daughter-in-law, Paul B. and Alison M. Finney and granddaughter, Audriana E. Finney of Glastonbury. His daughter and daughter-in-law, Ellen M. Finney and Beth Slepian and grandson, Guthrie Stephen Finney of Brooklyn, NY. Brother-in-law, Raymond A. Johnston and his wife, Marilyn, of Bloomfield. He was a 1959 graduate of Ellsworth Memorial High School in South Windsor; served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965; a 60-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America, Local 43; a 46-year member of Hartford Evergreen Lodge No. 88 A.F. & A.M. of South Windsor and a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church, East Hartford.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at 11:00a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Turnpike, VERNON with the Rev. Virginia W.G. Army officiating. A calling hour will precede the service, in the church, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to Protectors of Animals, Inc., 144 Main Street, Unit O, East Hartford, CT 06118.Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue is entrusted with his arrangements.
