Raymond C. George

Raymond C. “Ray” George, 71, of Portland and formerly of East Hartford, loving husband of the late Mary Beth (Agnew) George, peacefully passed away after battling a long illness on Sunday, December 8, 2024, with his caring family by his side at Chestelm Health & Rehabilitation Center in Moodus. Born in Portsmouth, NH on February 19, 1953, a son of the late Charles A. and Evelyn (Hanley) George, he had been a resident of East Hartford for 47 years prior to moving to Portland this year. Ray was a graduate of Dover High School in Dover, NH. Prior to his retirement, Ray worked at Gerber Garment Technology in South Windsor for 15 years before working for the town of East Hartford in Park Maintenance where he retired as a supervisor after 25 years of dedicated service to the town.

Ray was an avid golfer and was a member of the East Hartford town employees golf league on Wednesday afternoon at the East Hartford Golf Course. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, spending time at Gardner Lake and was a loyal fan of the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Ray was a talented cook and self-proclaimed “grill master” who loved entertaining and cooking for his family and friends. Most of all, Ray was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who received such joy being around his children and grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his son, Jason R. George and his wife Heather Beacham of Marlborough; his daughter, Julie L. George and her husband Kenneth Macias of Bend, OR; his special caring partner, Judy A. Hanna of Portland with whom he made his home; and three adored grandchildren, Clementine George and Magnolia George both of Marlborough, Mari Macias of Bend, OR. He also leaves his two sisters, Donna Parsons and her husband David of Wolfeboro, NH, Janet Kelly and her husband Kevin of Epping, NH; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be Thursday (December 12th) at 11 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Ray’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (December 11th) from 4 – 6 pm at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ray’s name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
