Michael James Christiana, Sr.

Michael J. Christiana, Sr., 73, of Granby and formerly of Simsbury, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Governor’s House in Simsbury surrounded by his caring family. Born in Hartford on August 26, 1950, a son of the late Rocco and Anna (Zicari) Christiana, he had been a resident of the Simsbury area for many years. Mike was a graduate of Rocky Hill High School, class of 1968 where he starred in track. He then attended Central Connecticut State University where he obtained his Associates Degree.

Prior to his retirement he was a Partner and Insurance Rep for many years with Wellstone Insurance Agency in Bloomfield. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching tournaments on television. He was a talented gardener with a “green thumb” and took pride in his gardens and yard. He loved sports and was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Mike was also a wonderful cook and would often cook for his family and friends to enjoy, and an animal lover, especially of his dog Willie. He will forever be remembered by his big personality and sense of humor. Mike was always making those around him laugh.

Mike is survived by two sons, Nicholas M. Christiana and his wife Andrea of Granby, Michael J. Christiana, Jr. and his wife Brittany of Granby; a daughter, Kelly N. Christiana and her fiancé Donald Roy of Enfield; and four adored granddaughters, Lily Christiana, Violet Christiana, Madelyn Christiana, and Annalise Roy. He also leaves behind three brothers, James Christiana and his wife Shari of Windsor, Steven Christiana of South Windsor, Rocco Christiana, Jr. and his wife Marnie of Middlefield; a sister, Susan O’Connell and her husband George of Eastham, MA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, former clients, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be Friday (August 2, 2024) at 1 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday from 11 am – 1 pm.
