Maurice J. Dionne, 93, of Willington and formerly of the East Hartford area, peacefully journeyed home on Monday, October 7, 2024 with his family by his side. Maurice was the loving husband of 67 years of Yvette M. (Corriveau) Dionne. Born in Madawaska, Maine on April 6, 1931, a son of the late Lewis and Laura (Fournier) Dionne, he had been a resident of Hartford for 45 years and East Hartford for over 11 years prior to moving to Willington in 2006.
Maurice was a talented carpenter and a longtime member of the Carpenter’s Union Local #43. A devout catholic, he was a faithful communicant of St. Phillip’s Church in Ashford and formerly of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford. He was a proud 4TH Degree member of the Knights of Columbus from the Rev. J.C. Martin Council #3901 in East Hartford.
Maurice was an avid trout fisherman and hunter who was a member of the Rockville Fish & Game Club, and often went boating and fishing on Crystal Lake in Ellington. He loved riding his electric stationery bike for over fifty years up to age 89, and traveling taking trips with his wife for many years after retirement. He and his family were also proud of him being a friend of Bill W for 43 years. Most of all, Maurice was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time spent with his entire family.
Along with his beloved wife, Maurice is survived by his three children, Cindy Demers of Willington with whom he made his home, Patricia “Pat” Jones and her husband Paul of Willington, Roger Dionne and his wife Louise of East Hartford; five cherished grandchildren, Ted Demers, Jr. and his wife Jayme of West Hartford, Christopher Demers and his wife Dr. Molly Demers of Manchester, Nicole Wellington and her husband James of Mt. Vernon, NY, Josh Dickson of Oklahoma, Kelly Dionne and her husband Tim Greika of Wethersfield; and four adored great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Teddy, Beau, and Sophia. He also leaves a brother, Gerard Dionne of Canada; a sister, Yollande Sirois of Madawaska, Maine; several in-laws; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, Maurice was predeceased by a son-in-law, Ted Demers of Willington.
Funeral service will be Saturday (October 12th) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Christopher Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at a later date. The family requests that everyone please go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Maurice’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (October 11th) from 4 – 6 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
