Mary Claire Kowalchik

Mary Claire (Ruane) Kowalchik, 94, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2017 after a life fully lived. She was the beloved widow of 59 years to Joseph Kowalchik. Mary Claire was born on July 20, 1922 in Scranton, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late John and Veronica (Dunn) Ruane, and grew up in Hawley, PA.

Mary was devoted to her religion, and was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle lady, a wonderful mother, who always dedicated herself to the happiness of her family who were the light of her life.

She will be dearly missed by her children and their families; Joseph Kowalchik and his wife Rita of Orange, Robert kowalchik and his wife Nancy of South Windsor, Daniel Kowalchik and his wife Susan of Colchester, and Mary Ellen Casaly and her husband Dr. Joseph Casaly of Flower Mound, TX., her cherished 9 grandchildren; Thomas, David, Michael, and John Kowalchik, Amy Herzog, Elizabeth McCullough Esq., Ryan, Allison and Paige Casaly Esq., and her 13 great grandchildren; Alyssa, Ashley, Cameron and Jacob Herzog, Maggie, Sam, Hannah, Luke, James, Will and Evan Kowalchik, Lilah and Jake McCullough.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 5-7pm at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury, CT 06033. Services will begin Wednesday, January 25 at 9:30am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am, at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd., East Hartford.
