Mary (Grogan) Dubay, 79, of Ellington, loving wife of over 51 years to Richard Dubay, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 with all the people she loved and cared most for by her side at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on March 12, 1945, a daughter of the late John J. and Margaret (Cunningham) Grogan, she had been a resident of Ellington since 1980. Mary was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford, class of 1963. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Secretary for 20 years by the city of Hartford – Department of Public Education. A devout Catholic, Mary was a faithful communicant of St. Luke’s Church in Ellington. Most of all, Mary was a devoted and proud wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and caregiver to her family and close friends.
Along with her beloved husband Richard, Mary is survived by her son, Curtis Dubay and his wife Johanna of Washington, D.C.; a brother, William “Bill” Grogan of Willimantic; two sisters, Helen Boardman of East Hartford, Dorothy “Dottie” Palowski of Andover and formerly of East Hartford; and her three adored grandsons, Theodore, Patrick, and William Dubay all of Washington, D.C. She also leaves a close nephew, Tom Steinke of Andover; two dear friends, Margie Bushnell of Berlin and Elaine Bernier of Farmington; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Michael Grogan and James “Jim” Grogan both of East Hartford; two brothers-in-law, Robert Boardman and Richard “Dick” Palowski both of East Hartford; and two sisters-in-law, Maureen Grogan of Willimantic and Ann Grogan of East Hartford.
Funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family at the present time. There will be a funeral Mass at a later date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements. Her son Curtis will miss her so much that he lacks the words to express, as well as all the friends and loved ones that relied on her for a listening ear and her sound advice.
