Mary Ann Cipolla

CIPOLLA. Mary Ann “Joan” (Frey) Cipolla, 97, beloved wife of Sam Cipolla, died Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Greensprings Health Care Center. Born March 24, 1918 in Manchester, Joan was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Pongratz) Frey.

Joan was a long time employee of Colt Firearms Mfg, and enjoyed knitting, playing cards, the Red Sox, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her husband of 73 years, Sam, she is survived by a son Robert and Dorothy Cipolla of South Windsor, a daughter Lucille Wall of East Hartford; 4 grandchildren Teri and William Gilnack , Tracy Wall and John Tsakiris, Lorin and Skip Dunphy, and Robert Cipolla; 4 great-grandchildren William, Samantha and Taylor Gilnack, and Quinn Dunphy; a brother Henry Frey; a sister-in-law Catherine Frey; a god-child William Frey; former son-in-law Tom Wall; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by a sister and 3 brothers. The family expresses special thanks to Patricia Granell, Diane Martin, Carol Michaud, and Donna and Tom Terragna.

Calling Hours will be Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 4-7pm at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Joan’s funeral will begin at the funeral home on Friday, October 30 at 10am, followed at 11am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Joan’s name to the East Hartford Fire Department, EMS Division, 31 School Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.
