Manuel S. Arrieta, 97 of East Hartford, beloved husband of Sara (Garcia) Arrieta passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, alongside his family. He was born May, 5, 1925 in Colombia, South America, the son of the late Manuel Jose Arrieta and Henriqueta Arroyo. After moving to the USA in 1964, he held a job at the Royal Typewriter Co, in Hartford. He then went to work for the Colt Manufacturing Co. where he advanced to the firearms division until a strike went into effect in the 1980’s. Meanwhile, he worked at Foodways National Inc. in Wethersfield and G. Fox & Co in Hartford, Eventually, returning to the Colt Manufacturing and retiring from Colt in 1996. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three sons, two daughters and their spouses, Harold and Eloina Arrieta of Jupiter, Florida, Raymond Arrieta of East Hartford, Gerardo and Debra Arrieta of East Hartford, Maribel Arrieta and her husband Alfredo Gonzales of Wellington, Florida, Gisela Arrieta of Hartford; many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother and sister.
Throughout his life he enjoyed watching boxing, soccer and western movies. He was also an avid reader, a mathematician and a foodie. Another favorite pass time he enjoyed was listening to news around the world on a wide band radio/receiver. He always looked forward to gathering with family and friends during the holidays and special occasions.
A Brief gathering prior to Church for Manuel will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 8:30 am to 9:20 am at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 10:00 am at St Mary Church, 15 Maplewood Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A Committal Service will occur Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Manuel's memory may be made to Alzheimer Association, http://act.alz.org/donate.
