Lorraine C. Smith

Lorraine C. Smith, 85, of South Glastonbury, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine was the devoted wife of Walter K. Smith for 68 years. She was born April 6, 1931 in South Glastonbury, to the late Edward and Bertha (Lingner) Pfau.

Lorraine was a loving wife, mother & grandmother, dedicated to her family’s happiness. She cared for EVERYONE. She loved to bake cookies, adored children and cats, and enjoyed canning & preserving produce from the local farms. She made beautiful braided rugs, prayer shawls and afghans which were all labors of love. She was the Number #1 fan of the Silver Six, Walter’s race car. Lorraine was a lifetime member of the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury where she sang in the choir and served as the President of the Ladies Aide. She played the organ and accordion and loved to do-si-do as a member of the Glastonbury Square Dance Club. She also loved a good bargain.

In addition to her husband Walter, Lorraine will be dearly missed by her daughters; Lee Smith of St. Louis, MO., and Jill Beckett and her husband Chip of South Glastonbury, grandchildren; Leah Beckett of Boston, MA., and Clayton Beckett of Middletown, a sister Shirl, nieces and nephews; Allan, Nancy, Linda, Sharon, Kimmy and Cathy, and her cherished furry feline companion, Rusty.

She is predeceased by her parents, sister Evelyn Mazuraitis, brother Edward Pfau Jr. and son-in-law Joseph Battle.

Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 4-6pm at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury, CT 06033. Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, at 10:30am at Congregational Church of South Glastonbury, 949 Main St., South Glastonbury CT.
