Leslie R. (Hansen) Apostalon, 80, of East Hartford, loving wife of over 39 years of the late Paul Apostalon, Sr., passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at a local rehabilitation center. Born in Newton, MA on November 22, 1942, the daughter of the late Herbert and Olive (Read) Hansen, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1966. Leslie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Earlham College in Richmond, IN and later her Master’s Degree in Education from Colgate University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for over 23 years by the town of Meriden Board of Education as a high school teacher at Maloney High School. A woman of strong faith, Leslie was a long-time communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain.
A strong advocate of community service, Leslie was a member of the East Hartford Woman’s Club and General Federation of Woman’s Clubs for the past 52 years. She was a past president of both East Hartford Woman’s Club and the General Federation of Woman’s Club of Connecticut where she also served on several different committees. She also enjoyed attending, participating and being a delegate at annual state and national conventions, where she was well received as a mentor to many woman for her leadership and dedication.
Leslie took great pride in her yard and flower gardens, and had a collection of Cat’s Meow wooden houses around her home. She was also an avid reader who loved solving different puzzles. She was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and UConn Women’s basketball team. Most of all, Leslie was a proud and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took pride in caring for her family and supporting them at their sporting events and extracurricular activities.
Leslie is survived by her son, Paul Apostalon, Jr. of East Hartford; her daughter, Karen Adams and her husband William of Voluntown; two step-daughters, Pamela Wass and her husband John of Stuart, FL, Diane Kutschera of Noblesville, IN; and two adored grandchildren, Sean Apostalon of Glastonbury and Nicholas Adams of Voluntown. She also leaves a brother, Herbert Hansen of New Hampshire; four step-grandchildren, Wendy, Gregory, Jeffrey, and Dana; several nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, and many dear friends.
Funeral service will be Friday (December 2, 2022) at 10 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main Street, New Britain with Archimandrite Spyridon Chatzis officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, (Section 35), East Street, New Britain. Leslie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday (December 1, 2022) from 3 – 6 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. There will be a Trisagion Service celebrated at 5 pm on Thursday at the funeral home chapel.
