Lee was born June 23rd 1945 in New Britain to Leroy H Carlson and Clarice (Perkins) Carlson. He resided the majority of his life in East Hartford also living in Manchester and Portland. He joined the Brookdale Buckingham community in Glastonbury after leaving his East Hartford home in 2018
Leroy graduated from East Hartford High School in 1963 and attended Hartford State Technical School earning a degree in drafting and engineering. He went on to work for Preston Engravers / Rotometrix in Windsor CT and retired after 30 plus years. Lee also served in the Connecticut Air National Guard and was a very proud patriot of our country. He was a parishioner of Faith Lutheran Church in East Hartford a member of the Connecticut Society of Ferroequinologists (model railroad club) and a former member of the Hartford Yacht Club.
Lee will be remembered by family and friends as loving, silly, devilish and smart. He was a lover of trains, boats, lakes and beaches. A sweet guy who loved animals and was forever the gentleman. Even as his Alzheimer’s progressed you could see the engineer in him taking things apart and trying to rebuild things that he didn’t think worked quite right. His creativity and technical abilities were on display in the incredible train layout he had constructed in his East Hartford home.
Leroy is survived by his daughter and son in-law Dawn M. and Todd A. Chmielewski of Marlborough, CT and his son Todd R Carlson of Melbourne, FL along with his 6 grandchildren: Dana and Nicholas Chmielewski of Marlborough, CT and Todd Jr (TJ), MacKenzie, Hannah and Brayden Carlson of Melbourne, FL. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Lee leaves behind a sister and brother in law Marilyn and Jeffrey Cummings of East Hartford and a brother Robert A Carlson of Beverly, MA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his wife Nancy M Carlson, Lee was predeceased by his parents Leroy H Carlson and Clarice (Perkins) Carlson as well as his sister in law Joanne (Nelson) Carlson and his best fur friend Oliver.
Lee’s family would like to thank the loving staff and community members at Brookdale Buckingham in Glastonbury for their care, compassion and friendship while he was in residence there, as well as The Home Aides caregivers and Vitas Hospice for their care as well.
At this time burial services will be private at Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford and are being handled by Newkirk and Whitney of East Hartford. A memorial celebration of Lee’s life will be held this summer at Faith Lutheran Church in East Hartford. We will publish that date once it is confirmed and hope that family and friends will join us. Memorial donations can be made in Leroy’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT, The Connecticut Humane Society, Faith Lutheran Church of East Hartford or a charity of your choice.
