Kenneth Evans, age 61, beloved husband of Gail Evans, of East Hartford passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2011 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born January 12, 1950 in Hartford to the late John P. Evans and A. Irene Evans.
Kenny attended Montrose and Kennelly Elementary Schools and graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, class of 1968. Kenny retired from Aetna Insurance. His passions included his family, the game of golf, the New York Giants, and Stuart, Florida. Kenny, a true gentleman, will be greatly missed by all for his sense of humor and quick wit.
In addition to his wife, Gail, of 32 years Kenneth will be dearly missed by his faithful canine companion Lucy, and his mother-in-law Mary Galipo of East Hartford. Ken is survived by his sisters Barbara Melnyk and husband Greg of Ashford, Janis Schlagenhauf of Columbia, by sisters-in-law Paulette Evans of Burlington, Lisa Galipo and husband Gary Norman of East Hartford, and Susan Moser and husband Duane of Bethel, by nieces and nephews Gina D'Angelo, Jen Evans, Andrew and Daniel Melnyk, Ryan, Tara, Kurt Schlagenhauf, and David and Melissa Moser, and by grandnieces and grandnephews John, Lisa, Anthony, Jackie, Jake and Mason. Kenny is predeceased by his parents Irene and John Evans, and his brother Tom Evans. Kenny will be missed by his many co-workers and friends.
A Mass celebrating Kenny’s life will be held Monday December 19, 2011 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Maplewood Ave. East Hartford. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. Our family would like to thank those who cared for Kenny during his illness, especially ECHN Eastern CT Cancer Institute (The John A. DeQuattro Community Cancer Center) for making Kenny feel like a king before even walking through your door. We would also like to thank the Visiting Nurse & Health Services of CT for all their work and support, and Dr. David Reardon, at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. A special thank you goes out to Darren, Lorie and all the 10th floor doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital. Riverside Health Care Center, and Masonicare, you allowed our family to literally move in to stay with Kenny. We thank you for making us feel so at home.
