Dorothy “Dottie” (Cummings) Moreau, 86, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully May 25, 2011 with her family by her side. Her beloved husband, Ernest J. (Pete) Moreau, passed away in 1998 after their marriage of 53 years. Dottie was born in Norwich on January 19, 1925, the daughter of the late William L. and Rose (Marra) Cummings.
Dottie graduated as Salutatorian from Buckley High School, Hartford, CT, at the age of 16. She began her business career as a secretary for the Singer Company in Wethersfield, CT. In 1970, she accepted a position as a secretary with the State of Connecticut, where she was employed for 30 years, retiring in 2000 from the Lottery Division. Dottie loved spending time with her family, her pets, visits to Hampton Beach, NH, music, and classic movies, especially Gone With The Wind. Dottie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always giving of herself to others. The last several years resulted in many changes for Dottie's health but she never complained. Her outlook was always bright to the very end. The most simple act of kindness would make her so happy.
Dottie is survived by her two daughters, Elaine M. Carey, and her husband, Joseph D. Carey, and Susan L. Olson, and her husband, Lee R. Olson, six grandchildren, Joseph D. Carey, III, Johanna D. Carey-Lang, Alanna R. Carey, Charleton Carey, Jennifer Pecott and Kristen Moreau, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dottie also leaves behind Sherry, a very dear friend of the family, who, along with Dottie's granddaughter, Johanna, brought her peace and comfort during her illness. Dottie was predeceased by her son, Lester "Les" Moreau, in 1994, and by her sister, Rose "Rosie" Fitzgerald in 2007.
