Catherine Ann Brey

Catherine Ann (Hartigan) Brey, 66, of East Hartford, beloved mom and grandmother, passed away peacefully Tuesday November 12, 2024. Catherine was born July 2, 1958 in Hartford, daughter to the late John J. and Lillian (Krupp) Hartigan. She was raised in East Hartford, where she attended East Hartford schools, graduating from George J. Penney High School, Class of 1976. At age 40, Cathy decided to attend Eastern CT State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. She was employed for many years in finance with the State of Connecticut, retiring in 2018.

Cathy enjoyed her free time, traveling to Mystic with her four-legged child, Stevey. Her favorite time was being a grandma, spending time with her grandchildren.

Catherine will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her loving family, her four children, Thomas Brey with his wife Kristen of Simsbury, Serena Pavia with her husband Jon, Christina McDougal with her husband Matt, all in Palm Bay, FL and Michelle Brey with her partner Richie Markus of Southington; the children’s father, George Brey of East Hartford; her six adored grandchildren; her brother, Michael Hartigan with his wife Sharon and her sister, Pamela Hartigan all of East Hartford.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Saturday, November 23 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford, with a Remembrance Service at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Terry Shook. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the March of Dimes.
