Albert,“Al” was born on January 29, 1932 in Boston, MA to the late Rudolph Arnold Gatto and Carmella Eva (Capriulo) Gatto from Medford, MA. He attended and graduated from high school in 1950 and then enlisted in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War, before receiving his honorable discharge in 1956. Al was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Experimental Test/Forman for 35 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed traveling after retirement, including two trips to Italy to visit family. Al was one of the founding fathers of The Enfield Hockey Assn. and a past president of the Lovell Lake Association in Sanbornville, NH. Throughout his life, Al enjoyed playing golf, softball, hockey and sailing. He enjoyed refereeing hockey games, was an avid Red Sox fan, and hobby woodworker often crafting gifts for his family and friends. He will be most remembered for being supportive of his family and friends whenever needed. Besides his wife of 38 years, Joan H. Gatto, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his children: Kenneth Gatto & Elaine Parnagian of Merrimack, NH, Andrea Young of Enfield, CT, Cynthia Meloling & husband Warren of Wallingford, CT, and Christopher Gatto & Janice Zecher of Sanbornville, NH, Franklin Davis & wife Sandra of Glastonbury, CT, Sherry Carlson & husband Donald of Old Saybrook, CT; and his siblings: brother Arnold Gatto & wife Noreen, brother Johnny Gatto and sister Maryanne Gatto, and sister-in-law Kathy Gatto; Nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many special nieces and nephews. Al was pre-deceased by his brother, Anthony Gatto.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 24 2018. Calling hours are 9-11am, and the Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am all at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT.
