Mrs. Geraldine McCorquodale Johnson, age 87, of Maynard Road, Godwin, departed this life on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at The Garden of Roseboro. She was born in Cumberland County, North Carolina on March 11, 1931 to the late William Angus McCorquodale and the late Ila Ward McCorquodale.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband James Hoyle Johnson, Sr.; son: James “Jimmy” Hoyle Johnson, Jr.; brothers: W.A. McCorquodale, Charlie Raymond McCorquodale, and Earl McCorquodale; sisters: Ruby M. Curry, Elma Howard and Gladys Outlaw.
Geraldine loved her Lord, dedicating her life to his will and partaking in his work in every way that she could. She had the heart of a servant, she found joy in helping others; she thought it to be a great honor to have been able to visit with the sick and shut in regularly, prepare for them meals and deserts to be delivered personally, along with a friendly visit that came with lots of love. It would have been hard to have hand picked a better woman to have called wife, mother, grandmother, sister or friend as she was one of a kind and came from a time when it still meant everything to be virtuous as a woman and her life reflected that. She loved her family and spending time with them, spoiling the babies and cooking delicious meals for those in her company, in particular her famous coconut cream pie.
Geraldine enjoyed most in life the beautiful scenes of nature such as the flowers and the birds. She loved hummingbirds and could often be found feeding them or outside working in her beloved garden.
She was a humble spirit, known for her kindness and loyalty to those who knew her and her willingness to give of herself, even to those who didn’t.
Although, she will be missed now, we can rest easy knowing that with her departure, her work is now done and her reward rendered.
Geraldine leaves behind to honor her legacy, her daughters Sharon Lynn Johnson and Deborah Hall and husband Patrick; two grandchildren: Jessica Hall Masters and husband Lee and Aaron Clifton Hall and wife Kasey; two great-grandchildren: Gracyn Masters, Garrison Masters and Lily Masters; two brothers: Billy Harold McCorquodale and Kenneth Ray McCorquodale and 16 nieces and nephews also survive.
