It is with heavy hearts and tremendous gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Patricia “Patsy” Rams (nee: Hunton), who gave family and friends her “absolute everything” until her very last breath on November 6th, 1:02pm at Margaret’s Place Hospice, Dundas, at the age of 82 years.
Pat was the loving wife of 63 years to her devoted husband, David Warrior Rams; She was the heart of her children, David William Rams (pre-deceased) and daughters’ Sara Rams (Scott Wallace) and Lisa (Mike) Monaghan. Her affection for her grandkids Max Rams, Alex Mallory (Dennis), Amy & Ben Wallace and Jansen Rams had no bounds.
Patsy’s death was preceded most recently by her dear son, David William Rams. They shared their cancer journeys and supported each other with a depth only a mother and son could share. Over the last year, we have spent lots of family time together, making the memories, savouring the moments and “making it last.” We know David will be greeting mom with open arms, and together they will find comfort and peace, together again.
Patsy approached her pancreatic cancer journey with incredible strength, positivity, and a determination to make the most out of every day. She had always shared the wisdom that the simple things were the big things in life. And here she was, enjoying the simple things: savouring mornings on the back deck with Dave, enjoying the vista of their beautiful country estate, extended visits with her family near and far, weeding her beautiful gardens, daily walks down the driveway to get the newspaper, putting her fresh laundry on the line, and gathering with family & friends as often as possible.
Pat was active all her life. She enjoyed tennis, biking, cross country skiing, walks with friends, and right up until June of this year she was determined to lift her weights to stay strong. Her lifetime of friendships blossomed in this arena of fun and sport. Her life was filled with adventures and parties, cycling trips, group outings, gourmet dinners, hayrides, barbecues and visits to the theatre. She was known for her apple pies, plum pudding and entertaining; the consummate hostess.
Pat was an active member of the Westover Women’s institute and the Westover Layette Ladies group where she enjoyed the community friendships, and making care packages for families in need in third world countries. Her last days were spent bundling socks for Socks for Hope. Pat’s generosity and selflessness inspired Pat’s daily life, and those around her. Pat was affectionately known as “Mother Theresa” by her lifelong circle of friends.
Pat will be met at the pearly gates by her mother and father, Phyllis and Bill Hunton, her three sisters, Mary Jean Tyler, Eleanor Curro and Mary Anne Kenrick, who preceded her in death. We’re sure Marnie Munn will be there too, and will no doubt be ready with all kinds of ideas for dinner parties and events they can plan together.
She will be greatly missed by her brother Bill Hunton, brother John (Sandy) Kenrick, Brother in law Allen (Flora) Rams and all her nieces and nephews: Christopher and Matthew Hunton, Martha Murray, Rick Tyler, Jim Riches, Cindy Sager and Max Rams.
Pat was the heart and soul of our family, and we are full of admiration for a mother who lived for her family, gave selflessly to the world around her, and left this world with grace, dignity and so much strength.
Her experience at Margaret’s Place was extremely warm and uplifting, and a gift to our mom, who definitely experienced “joy” in her final weeks. The team of nurses, PSW’s and volunteers did all of the heavy lifting with compassion, heart, and humour, making her stay feel like a home away from home. Pat called her caregivers her “angels” and would have a tear in her eye at how wonderful they made her feel. We could not have asked for a more gracious end to Pat’s life. ❤️
A Celebration of Life will take place on the afternoon of Sunday December 1, 2024. Details to follow.
If desired, donations can be made to Margaret’s Place in celebration of the incredible care Patricia received and with hopes this type of care can be guaranteed for others.
“Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.”
