Mat was born October 1st,1979 and is survived by his parents Jamie Perron and Roger (Michelle) Perron, his siblings Justin (Lindsay) and Kayla (Adam) Perron, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, Kinsley, Winnie, Brennan and Wyatt.
Mat grew up in Dundas before going to Western University. After completing his degree, Mat returned to Hamilton. If Mat was anything it was loved and loving. Whether you knew him through Dundas ice hockey or t-ball, through fishing or hunting, met him at school, university, or a random chance meeting, once you met Mat you had to love him. He had a natural charisma and an infectious sense of humor that made it impossible not to befriend him. Once his friend, you had earned a lifelong friendship of love, unwavering loyalty and most likely a nickname paired with a distinct accent. Mat was the glue that held together numerous lifelong friendships by planning events and ensuring everyone kept in touch. This was evident by the countless friends Mat always had by his side, especially during this past year.
Children have always gravitated to Mat with his animated voices and playful story telling. Later in life, as families grew, his playful personality led to him becoming “Uncle Mat” to so many. It was not uncommon to find his nieces and nephews hanging off him to play or wrapped over his shoulders while enthralled in one of his many stories.
We will be celebrating Mat’s life and legacy on Sunday March 24th, between 1 - 4 pm (with brief speeches at 1:30pm) at the Waterfront Banquet and Conference Centre, 555 Bay Street North, Hamilton. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mat’s memory to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
