The family is grateful for the long life of Jean Betzner who peacefully passed away May 18, 2021. Mom was the beloved wife of Lloyd (2004) and dear mother of Connie (Bruce) Gilmour, Gary (Shirley) Betzner, Laurie (Don) Galer, Gaye (Peter) Hogg and Amy (Dan) Massana. Jean loved her grandchildren Karen (Wes) Mabee, Robyn (Jason) Sherwood, Paul (Kristin) Gilmour and their brother Ian, with Grandma in heaven; Carrie (Lloyd) Williams, Jeremy (Heather) Betzner, Robert (Jenn) Gowland, David (Jessica) Betzner and Melissa (Scott) Dearsley; Fraser (Kristie), Andrew (Becky) and Katelyn (Amanda) Galer; Sarah (Clint) Guenther, Ellie (Matt) Bennett and Charlotte (Drew) Melnyk; Rachel (Josh) Chamberlain, Alex (Émilie) Massana, Mackenzie (Kathya) Massana and Allyn (Parker) Stroud.
Mom loved to knit gifts for her precious great grandchildren, Jessica, Alyssa and Kendra Mabee, Courtney and Emily Sherwood, Hattie and Harrison Gilmour; Nolan and Addison Williams, Jacob, Sawyer and Grace Betzner, Mason and Maren Dearsley, Daniel and Christopher Gowland; Sadie, Shelby, Logan, Owen, Holly and Tatum Galer; Andrew, Benjamin and Audrey Guenther, Evelynne and Maye Bennett, Ruth Melnyk; Jack Massana and Aria Chamberlain.
Jean made happy memories with sisters-in-law Grace Alexander (Doug 2017) and Jeanette Jamieson and brother-in-law Keith Bailey (1984) along with many nieces and nephews.
Jean, born February 23, 1928, grew up in Kirkwall with her sister Marie Bailey, and brother Neil Jamieson (2007). She walked to Kirkwall's one room primary school house, then boarded with her aunt Helen in Cambridge where she attended Galt Collegiate for her high school years. Mom met her sweetheart, Lloyd, at a church young people's gathering. They were married in 1947 and lived on their beloved Bayvista Farm in West Flamboro. Jean and Lloyd were partners in farming, Betzner Equipment and were joint Secretaries of Rockton Fair. Fellow members of West Flamboro Church became lifelong friends. They loved road trips together and attended as many grandchildren's sporting events as possible. Mom spent her last few years living at Village Manor where she was treated with much love.
Making people laugh was her goal and she accomplished that with her quick wit. Even though she was always known as cyber Gramma, Mom would hand write beautiful personal letters and notes. She would never forget to thank you for the smallest of things. Mom loved to share her own collected treasures and birthdays were always "pick something from the cupboard". Our yards are full of shared perennials from Jean's beautiful gardens.
Mom was very generous, donating to many charities, her favourites being the Canadian Diabetes Association and Salvation Army.
