Donald passed away on March 28, 2018 at Willowgrove Long Term Care Residence in Ancaster, in his 90th year.
Born May 11, 1928 into the lineage of pioneers who arrived in “Upper Canada” in 1799 and settled Waterloo County, Don was the devoted son of the late Clancy and Dorothy Betzner of Dundas, Ontario. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Boyd of London, Ontario and his nieces – Susan (Greg) Hall, Jennifer Boyd and Mona (Andrew) Garde and families. After earning a degree in economics, Don spent his career with Imperial Oil in Toronto. Upon retirement, he returned to the family home in Dundas and was active with St. Mark’s United Church, McMaster Alumni Association, Esso Annuitants and Probus Club. He also enjoyed volunteering for several charitable organizations. He established the Betzner Family Memorial Bursary and the Dean’s Medal of Excellence in The Humanities at McMaster University.
The family wish to express their sincere gratitude to Ron Arner for his many years of friendship and support of Don. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Grove Cemetery (York Road entrance) in Dundas.
