July 14th, 1938 – July 29th, 2017
Mary who most knew as Betty was born in Duncan, BC to Sandy and Agnes Walker. She was raised on a farm in Westholme with 5 brothers and a sister. This was where she developed her love for the farm life.
Betty began her working career at a young age in the grocery department at Eatons. She later on began working at Welshes Café before getting married to Gordon Still in 1957. Together they made their way to Port Alberni before moving back to the Cowichan Valley in 1960. She then had 2 daughters and together she and Gordon built their family home. Here she embraced her love for the farm while raising various animals and opening up she and Gordons family owned poultry processing business. Betty was also known for, and had a love for cooking and baking. You couldn’t walk into her home without being offered some sort of baked good she had made, or go a day without some friend or family member pestering her to make her famous curry chicken. However out of her home she enjoyed spending multiple hours in her garden while also caring for her chickens, geese, and beloved dog Sport. Betty additionally spent various summers with her family camping and fishing in places such as Bamfield and Parksville. She later in life retired in 2003. She and Gordon than sold their family home and downsized into a much smaller but suited house. That never prevented her from camping, and spending time with family and friends and reminiscing about her good ol’ days on the farm. To Betty, that was where she felt she truly belonged.
Betty is survived by her husband Gordon, Daughters Teresa, Shelley (Maurice), Grandchildren Travis, Brandon, and Samantha, great grandchild Dominik, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
