Ernie was born in St Anton, Austria and was raised in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. He came to Canada in 1950 at the age of 18, he traveled and worked many jobs around BC and the Yukon, he self-taught himself to read, write and speak English.
He met the love of his life Leona (nee Carpenter), and got married in 1963. They settled down together in Crofton, BC and had a family of four children, Larry, George (pre-deceased), Angelique and Frank.
Ernie had a long career working for BCFP, first as a surveyor in the Cowichan Lake area, then transferred to the Crofton Pulp Mill in 1957 and retired in 1996. Ernie enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing and exploring with his dogs.
Thank you to Oyster Harbour Staff for their warm care and guidance along the way. A service will be held at St. Mary’s in Ladysmith on Jan 9, 2025, at 10:00 am.
