With great sadness, we announce that Agnes (Aggie) Ann Francis, of Duncan, B.C. was granted her wings on June 11, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones and was at peace when she passed.
Aggie was born on June 26, 1949, to Clements Kuntz and Isabel Getz in Weyburn, SK. She was the 4th of 10 children and was blessed to be born into a large, loving family.
In 1966, she met John Francis and they wed in Regina, SK on July 22, 1967. They went on to have two children, Sidney, and Tracy. When Aggie had Sidney, she decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful mother. Aggie excelled at looking after her family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties in their lives. She was an excellent cook and took pride in keeping a beautiful home. After many years of marriage, Aggie and John went their separate ways.
Aggie met the love of her life, Barry Abbott in 1995. Together, they enjoyed a wonderful life in Duncan, B.C. They loved escaping the winters by spending time in Yuma, Arizona, as well as adventures in Mexico, Panama, and Alaska. They had the time of their lives, filled with family, friends, love and laughter! Aggie gained the Abbott family to love, including Terry and Tim and their families. She embraced and loved them as her own and rejoiced in their accomplishments and talked endlessly of her love for them.
Aggie was an avid reader, golfer, and crib player and when she was not filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her garden or working on a jigsaw puzzle. We will miss her greatly.
If asked to describe Aggie, her friends and family would be quick to say she was one-of–a kind, spoke her mind, was colourful and used expressive language. She was warm, loving, beyond generous with family and friends, quick to offer to help, sharp witted, fun, kind and short!
Aggie is predeceased by her husband, Barry Abbott, May 5, 2022, and her brother Lawrence Kuntz, Feb. 22, 2023. She is survived by her sons, Sidney (Kim) Francis, Terry (Linnea) Abbott, Tim (Abby) Abbott, daughter, Tracy (Jerry) Lebourdais, Grandchildren, Jesse (Miranda), Samantha (Steve), Caitlyn (Graeme), Meaghan (Keenan), Blaise, Braeden, Brandie, Tyler, Joshua, Braden and great granddaughters, Zoey, Olivia, and Peyton.
We cannot express enough thank yous to her friends and neighbours who helped Aggie throughout her last years. Through grief and illness, they were supportive in so many ways.
We are so grateful for her sister, Elaine and niece, Roxanne who came to care for her in her final weeks.
A huge thank you to Aggie’s team of physicians and the staff at Cowichan Hospice House. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cowichan Hospice House or to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life and reception on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 1p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Hall at 375 Brae Road, Duncan, B.C.
