Wayne A. Sundstrom, 85, of Hermantown, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 13, 2018. Born March 8, 1933, to Arthur and Cora Sundstrom, Wayne graduated from Proctor High School in 1951.
Following high school, he attended Duluth Business University and began working for the DM&IR Railroad in Proctor, where he worked for 37 years. After retiring, he worked part-time as a courier for The Duluth Clinic.
Wayne remained active throughout his life. He and his wife Jean raised their four children in Proctor. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He was a devoted fan of the Twins and all his children and grandchildren in their music and sporting events. He was a member of Euclid Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and AAD Shrine.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Harlan “Buddy” and Francis Sundstrom from Barstow, CA,, his sister and brother-in-law Corrine and Earl Youngkrantz, his father and mother-in-law, Jarl and Lorraine Johnson, his brothers-in-law Paul, John, and Dean Johnson, one nephew, Paul Johnson, and son-in-law Tom Helmer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Johnson) of 59 years, his four children, Robin (Doug) Johnson, Karen (Cathy Hunter) Sundstrom, Tim (Cynthia) Sundstrom, and Julie (Dan) Stauber, and his grandchildren, Megan Helmer, Ian Sundstrom, Haley, Hanna, Lindsey, and Eric Sundstrom, Nora, Owen, and Natalie Stauber, and his brother-in-law, Alan Johnson and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 12 noon until the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at Peace in Christ Lutheran Church, 5007 Maple Grove Road in Hermantown.
