Virginia Jane (Berini) Grant, age 89, passed from this life to join her dearly beloved husband, Raymond; daughter-in-law, Christine; granddaughter, Mary; brother, Joe and her parents on Friday, July 27, 2012. She was born in Duluth, MN on March 29, 1923 to Jack and Martha Berini.
Virginia graduated from Duluth Central High School class of 1941. Ray and Virginia were married in Chardon, Ohio and moved to Duluth in 1949. They purchased a home in Duluth Heights. Virginia was active in Lowell and Birchwood Elementary, Washington Jr. High and Central High School PTA’s while their five children attended these schools. She participated in Little League and hockey while David and Paul were active and was very active in Girl Scouts with Carolee. She held various offices in the Duluth Heights Community Club and on the Winter Frolic Committee. Virginia and Ray were also active with Seaway Swingers square dancers. Virginia was employed by Griggs Cooper, Garon Knitting Mills and Cook Home Laundry. Virginia was a member of First United Methodist Church, Women’s Society, Deborah Circle, Friday Morning Women’s Bible Class, Coppertoppers Senior Group, Merrimates, Crafty Ladies, Memorials Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Care Group Committee, Volunteer Office Committee and Prayer Group. She was a volunteer in the North Shore room at the Library where she delivered books and read to shut-ins and served on the 1941 Central reunion committee. Virginia was instrumental in the Twin Ports Genealogical Society and served as director and treasurer. She also volunteered to do research for people; this was among her greatest loves.
Virginia is survived by Carolee (Grant) Pearson of Aurora, Colo., David Grant of Duluth, Beth (Grant) Frisco of Harris, MN., Gregory and Susan (Grant) Cleveland of Grand Rapids, MI., and Paul Grant of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren who will all miss her smile, twinkling eyes and the special love she shared with them.

Gathering of family and friends will be 1:00 pm, Sunday, July 29, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 230 E. Skyline Parkway, until the 2:00 pm memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, or CHUM, 125 N. 1st Ave. W., Duluth, MN 55802.
