He was born at the family home in Duluth on February 15, 1929 to Nels and Theresa (Eklund) Hanson.
He was a 1947 Denfeld High School graduate and went on to further his education at UMD.
On November 15, 1958 he married Alice Budzak in Superior, WI and together they raised two daughters.
John followed his passion and obtained a private pilot’s license. He was employed with North Central Airlines and in 1986 retired as a Senior Agent with Republic Airlines after 28 years of employment. John was also a member of the Air National Guard.
John was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association of Duluth and continued to participate in the Republic Airlines Retirees Group.
He was very musically talented and enjoyed playing the piano. He was also a member of the Lake Superior Ragtime Society. He enjoyed working with his hands, and had done beautiful stain glass art. Reading was another of John’s passions, but he especially loved caring for animals.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; brother, Leroy ; sister, Eleanor Sternal and dear friend, Carl Lucas.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cathy Hanson of Glendale, CA and Lisa Hanson of Columbus, OH; and his dear mother-in-law, Helen Olson of Superior.

A Visitation will be held from 5-7p.m. with 7:00 pm Funeral Service Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 in Bell Brothers Chapel. 601 N. 56th Ave. West. Rev. Bridget Strudwick officiating. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.
