Betty was a lifelong resident of Duluth and graduated from UMD majoring in both sociology and anthropology. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa through college. She had a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from UMD.
She was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. Betty was a Docent for the Glensheen Mansion and member of the Trinity Chapter of the Eastern Star. Betty was also very involved with the historical committee in Fond Du Lac and the Historical Society of the Duluth Depot.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Robert Charles and Valborg; daughter, Debora Carlsness; and grandson, Matthew Stewart.
She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Kathleen (Tom) White of Superior, Janet (Rick) Livingston of Oviedo, FL, and Mary Stolis of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Maren (Matt) Hustad of Dayton, MN, Xong Xiong Stewart of Lacrosse, WI, Stephen (Taylor) Livingston of Oviedo, FL, Taylor Livingston of Oviedo, FL, Alex Stolis III of Plymouth, and Lizz Stolis of Plymouth; great grandchildren, Emma and Lauren Hustad of Dayton, MN, Nkauj Ntsuab “Pi” Stewart of Lacrosse, WI, and Kennedy Livingston of Oviedo, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation: 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, 925 East 4th Street, Duluth. Inurnment will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
