Sara Adams Wilcox passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 14, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sara was a bright light to all who knew her and brought joy to every life she touched. She made everyone feel welcome and special, always focused on how she could help those around her.
Raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Sara discovered her love of golf at an early age. As a young girl, she won many junior golf events at Chagrin Valley Country Club. Her passion for golf was life-long, and some of her happiest moments were spent playing golf with her girlfriends. After 15-years of trying, she finally convinced her husband Randy to start playing too, and it quickly became their favorite way to spend time together. They traveled the world playing golf and made many dear friends along the way. Sara had such a soft spot for the many wonderful caddies she met over the years, and always enjoyed their company on the course. Last August, Randy & Sara spent a memorable month in St. Andrews, Scotland, playing golf every day and enjoying their final golf trip together. It was the best month of their lives.
Sara graduated from Beaumont School for Girls (1968) and Bowling Green State University (1972) and excelled academically. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and also enjoyed singing and playing piano. After college, Sara was proud to be the first female salesperson at Xerox in Columbus, where she met the love of her life. Randy and Sara built a beautiful life together, filled with loving family and friends.
After leaving Xerox, Sara started her own business, Backporch Antiques and Crafts, where she used her decorating skills to help others make their homes as welcoming as her own.
Sara gave so much to her community and the causes that touched her heart, including The Christ Child Society, American Heart Association, Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio Health, and the Evans Scholarship Fund.
She found joy in her garden, happily planting flowers and vegetables each spring.
Sara loved life. She was a person of elegance and kindness, with a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humor. She was well-grounded, humble, honest and caring. As a devoted Catholic, her faith gave her the strength to deal with the toughest times in her life.
Sara had an incredible impact on the lives of those around her, and her presence made life better for everyone. Her memory lives on in all our hearts.
Preceded in death by her parents, I.H. Adams and Mary McGillicuddy Adams. Sara is survived by her husband, Randy; sons, Jamie (Ally) and Jonathan (Krysta); grandchildren, James, Lucy, Ryan, Maren, Aubrey and Kirk; sister, Mary Adams (Jerry Schwarz); brother-in-law, Jeff Wilcox (Trilva); niece and nephews, Annie (Rian Howells); Sean Cute (Brittni), Brian Cute (Amy) and Chris Wilcox (Chris); many cousins, family and friends. And beloved dog, Charli.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18th at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN; 5980 Perimeter Drive Dublin, Ohio 43017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 19th at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; 10700 Liberty Road South Powell, Ohio 43065. Since one of Sara’s requests was to have a great party in her honor, a party at Sara and Randy’s Powell home will immediately follow the funeral service. We hope all of her family and friends can join to celebrate her amazing life.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to The Columbus Foundation (reference Sara Wilcox Memorial Caddy Fund) 1234 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43205.
