Richard Hall Moore of Dublin passed away early Thursday morning after an unexpected illness. At his peaceful passing he was surrounded by his wife, children and spouses, grandchildren, and his best friend. Dick, or Pop Pop as his grandchildren called him, was born October 5, 1942, in Hackensack, New Jersey and grew up in Mariemont, Ohio.
He got his degree from The Ohio State University. He spent his career as an owner of a property and casualty insurance agency and later partnered at Berwanger Overmyer and Associates. However, he was known to many as Mayor. He served on Upper Arlington City Council for 16 years and was mayor for 13 of those years. His service did not stop there, as he was extremely involved in being a leader in many organizations. He was a Board Member of Dealers Alliance (Chairman), Cincinnati Bengals, Railroad S&L, Diamond S&L, Ohio Exposition Commission (Chairman), Columbus Chamber, Upper Arlington Chamber, Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, Ohio Commodores (Grand Commodore), and President of the Windermere Elementary PTO.
Despite having a successful business career and being an active leader in the community he prioritized his family and creating memorable experiences together, which time on the water was his favorite. Long weekends and vacations were a stream of love and laughter. Most importantly, the home that Dick and Sue created was warm and frequently was the hub of the neighborhood. With a busy career and being an involved father of 5 he picked up golf later in life at the age of 50. It quickly became a deep passion and suited his disciplined nature. His best friend, Mike Reardon (Uncle Mike), frequently teased him for his willingness to spend many hours on the practice range.
Dick was an accomplished man, but his selfless legacy is more defined by his devotion to his wife of 60 years, his 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and the rest of his family. He is survived by his wife Suzanne Rhodes Moore, children Melissa “Missy” Brown (Scott), Richard “Ric” Moore (girlfriend, Teresa), James “Jamie” Moore (Mary Noel), Jason Moore (Betsy), and Allyson Robinson (Matt). His 15 grandchildren, Hunter (Beth) and Dalton Brown, Rylee and Travis Moore, Rhodes, Seamus (Liz), Reese, and Tristan Moore; Armonde, Hall, Rawlins, and Mac Moore; Sybil (Austin) Bailey, Tabytha, and Keygan Robinson.
He is preceded in death by Isabel and Newton Moore (mother/father), Bob and Don Moore (brothers), and his beloved in-laws, Governor James and Helen Rhodes (Po and Nana).
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 9:00 AM at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church: Mill Run Campus, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
In lieu of flowers, family suggest contributions to be made to The James Cancer Research Center, University Square North 14 E. 15th Ave., Columbus, OH 43201.
