Myrtle Louise Miller Estep, born May 31, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, to George and Myrtle Miller, passed to eternal life on June 12, 2024, at the age of 87 years and 12 days, finally succumbing to the ravages of heart disease and Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by parents George and Myrtle Miller, brother Ronald Miller, sister Janet Early and grandson Roman Estep. She is survived by husband Gary of Dublin, Ohio; daughter Angie Amundson and son-in-law David of Portland, Oregon; son Randy Estep and daughter-in-law Stella of Ostrander, Ohio; and grandchildren Eli and Kai Amundson and Carson and Silas Estep.
Myrtle graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton in 1955, University of Dayton in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964 with a master’s degree in Christian education.
Myrtle came to know Jesus and was baptized with her mother when she was 13 at Linden Avenue Baptist church in Dayton. At 17, she dedicated her life to full time Christian service. She joined Hillcrest Baptist Church in Columbus as director of Christian Education where she remained until she and Gary were married in 1970.
In 1980, she and Gary were founding members of Sawmill Baptist Church where she directed church education as well as a church sponsored preschool. In 1989, Myrtle founded Merry Moppet Early Learning Center as a daycare program with a Christian emphasis. She grew it to three locations with more than 80 employees and more than 400 children. Her program was the largest privately owned Christian-based childcare operation in Ohio and probably the entire country. Myrtle loved working with children. There was nothing a small child could do to make her angry. She often worked with difficult children to great success.
Myrtle was a dedicated follower of Jesus, a dedicated wife and best friend, a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be admired and lovingly remembered by her family and all who were touched by her life.
