Meghan’s happy place was Ocean City, NJ, the place of her family summer vacation since birth. Long days at the beach, bike rides on the boardwalk, big family meals and secret Coronas with her mom and sisters after the lifeguards left. Growing up as a child of two OSU alums and an alumni herself, she was a passionate Ohio State Buckeyes fan, frequently attending games with her mom and daughters, tailgating with friends and proudly flashing her scarlet and gray. She owned a timeshare in Disney where she and her daughters, Carolanne and Katherine, delighted in the “most magical place on earth”, exploring the park, engaging with the characters and collecting their mouse ears. “Smeeg” as she was called by her sisters and “Aunt Smeeg” by her nieces and nephews, was “elegantly casual” in demeanor and style, an avid gardener and a lover of animals; She rescued several dogs and two cats. She loved music, particularly Kid Rock and Tom Petty, attended many shows and was always good for a playlist in the car, at the beach and while cooking. She enjoyed a nice meal, a glass of wine and loved chocolate.
Meghan was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, The Ohio State University and a proud resident of Dublin. She was an employee of Fiserv, as well as a former employee of OCLC and CompuServe, where she formed many of her long standing friendships. She was caring and compassionate and this was reflected in her close group of girlfriends, the “Soul Sisters”. Annual trips, daily support and many shared laughs were had, creating a second family for her.
Meghan is preceded in passing by her father, James Obert. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Carolanne and Katherine Hopkins. Her mother, Mary Beth Obert, her sisters, Maureen (George) Shildwachter and Mary (David Gerard) Obert; Her nieces and nephews, Brady, Ava, and Charlie Shildwachter as well as Annabelle and Dean Gerard; her beloved cats, Lilly and Pearl, and her Soul Sisters, along with countless friends she made along the way.
