Margaret "Meg" Jennifer O'Rourke passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family. She was 37.
Born April 28, 1987, in Evanston, IL to Jennifer Wachs and Douglas Vincent Wyatt, Meg spent her early childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio where she attended Mercer Elementary School and Mariemont Community Church. The family moved to Dublin, Ohio when Meg was 10. She attended Bailey Elementary School and Grizzell Middle School, graduating from Dublin Scioto High School in 2005.
A lifelong, voracious reader and gifted writer, Meg double-majored in English and Spanish at Bucknell University where she met her husband, Matthew Allen O'Rourke. They married in 2009, six days after Meg graduated.
Meg and Matt settled first in Morristown, then in Madison, NJ. Following a brief career in publishing, Meg earned a Master’s degree in Education from Drew University. She quickly became a beloved teacher of English and Creative Writing at Madison High School.
Soon after the birth of their first child, Charles (Charlie) Vincent, Meg and Matt moved back to Dublin, OH. Their family quickly added three beautiful children, John (Jack) Arthur, Bridget Ann, and Graham Louis.
For much of Meg's life, she danced. While a student at Marjorie Jones dance studio, a member of the Dublin Scioto flag corps, a high school theater lead and support cast member, and part of the Bucknell University dance team, Meg shined as a gifted performer. But more than on any stage, Meg relished dancing as a Refit instructor at West Central Community Correctional Facility. There she shared a deep connection with the residents as she led them in prayer, worship, and life-giving movement.
The hallmark of Meg's life was her faith. She worshiped Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth every day. She was both bold and tender in sharing His promises with others, never doubting or denying Him, always resolute in her convictions.
Meg was so much to so many: devoted wife and mother, cherished daughter, loyal sister, dear friend, kind classmate, thoughtful neighbor, and beloved child of God - a bright light with a huge heart and a glorious laugh. In recent years, Meg battled breast cancer with inspiring grit while remaining steadfast in her resolve to be joyful and present. She triumphed even in death by claiming the Lord's peace and extending it to all who knew her. In a final message to family and friends, Meg wrote, "Though shorter than I imagined, my life has been full, and beautiful, and blessed. Thanks be to God."
In addition to her parents, husband, and children, Meg is survived by siblings, Grace (Christopher) Bobbitt, Samuel (Madelyn) Wyatt, and Katherine (Eric) Johnson, nieces and nephews, David, Timothy, and Nora Bobbitt and Benjamin and Phoebe Wyatt; grandparents, Sara and William Wyatt; step grandmother, Karen Wachs, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is predeceased by grandparents, Margaret Riedinger and James Wachs, and step grandfather, Royal Riedinger.
Please join us as we celebrate Meg's life at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Northwest Presbyterian Church, 6400 Post Rd. Dublin, OH. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Dr. Dublin OH 43017.
