Larry Richard Chilcote, 62, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on September 2, 2024, from complications caused by pancreatic cancer, diagnosed just weeks ago. He was born on September 7, 1961, in Columbus, Ohio, alongside his twin brother, Gary. He was preceded in death by his sister, Amy (Dailey), and his parents, James and Elizabeth Chilcote.
Larry was a loving husband, devoted father, and amazing “Papaw.” He will be dearly missed by his entire family. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School and attended The Ohio State University. Larry worked as a frontline manager at Big Bear, where he met the love of his life, Laurie. After his time at Big Bear, he spent the remainder of his career as a Team Leader at Columbus Distributing.
An avid golfer and passionate fisherman, Larry also enjoyed hunting and was a member of the 200 Bowling Club with his brother Gary during his years in a bowling league. He was a snow and water skier, proudly displaying a license plate that read “SKI PRO.” Additionally, Larry was a part-time Master Chef, always eager to prepare meals for family and friends. He loved watching baseball and football, especially the Little League World Series, the Columbus Clippers, The Cleveland Guardians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He cherished winding down the day with his neighborhood friends.
However, his greatest passion was his children and grandchildren. Larry was their #1 cheerleader, volunteering his time at many of their events just to be with them – from Hilliard Little League and dance competitions to tennis matches and the Hilliard Darby Marching Band, where he even drove equipment to Walt Disney World for performances. The list goes on and on. His dedication and kindness earned him the nickname “Papa Chilcote” from many of the band kids, and he was beloved by many friends.
Larry’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Laurie, his three children: Colleen (Micah) Nungesser, Kyle Chilcote, and Kayla (Joshua) Kindell; and his three grandchildren: Samson, Violet, and Amelia. He is also survived by his twin brother, Gary Chilcote; brother-in-law, Gerald Dailey; and three nieces: Sarah, Kimberly, and Ann Marie. Additionally, Larry is survived by his mother- and father-in-law, Barbara and Harold Click; sisters-in-law, Marcie (Lane) Gandee and Linda (Montie) Slagel; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry’s life reminds us of the importance of not putting off what matters most. Time is fleeting, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Live each day to its fullest, cherish every moment with loved ones, and pursue your passions without delay.
We would be honored to celebrate Larry’s life with you.In preparation for the celebration, the family kindly asks that you share any memories, stories, and photos by emailing them to [email protected].
