Born January 4, 1961, Hani was born in Jerusalem, Palestine, to Manwa Khweis and Khalil Silwani. He’s the middle child of three brothers. He graduated high school in Palestine before moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1979.
He studied chemical engineering at Ohio State University, where he met the love of his life at the university’s Thompson Library, Kelly Motts. The family would travel across Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and England, but always returning to their roots in Ohio.
Hani is survived by his loving family, including Kelly, his sons David Khalil (Laura) and Sayeed, and grandchildren, Arthur and Barbara, who will carry on his legacy of kindness and perseverance. He will be survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, and in-laws, who are all proud to have the privilege of knowing him. As he would say, “Life is good.”
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 4, 2024, for a celebration of life from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Northwest Masonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Hani’s memory to Community Refugee and Immigration Services (C.R.I.S.).
