Gilbert Lee Sears, 80, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 6, 1943, to Corbie and Margaret (Nehus) Sears, Gil led a life defined by his devotion to the Lord, his unwavering love for his family, a profound passion for nature, and his remarkable talent as a wildlife photographer.
Gil graduated from Anderson High School before continuing his education at the University of Cincinnati, where he obtained an associate degree in Accounting. Throughout his professional career, Gil was known for his integrity and strong work ethic.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat (Hammons) Sears; his son, Sean (Katheryn) Sears, and his daughter, Leigh Sears (Todd Jensen); his sister, Regina (Erik) Peterson; his grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Ewing, Jordan (Julia) Sears, and Parker Jensen; his great-grandson, Sebastian Sears, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
An avid traveler and talented photographer, Gil spent his spare time capturing the beauty of America’s wildlife and nature. After settling in Columbus in 1985, he became a familiar figure in the local metro parks and the Columbus Zoo, often found photographing the wildlife and nature that he loved. His work was widely recognized and featured in the Columbus metro park publication.
Gil was an active 36-year member of Central Parkway Church of God in downtown Cincinnati from 1949 to 1985. Following his move to Dublin, Ohio, he dedicated another 36 years to The Radiant Life Assembly of God where he was a regular attendee until illness confined him to his home in 2020.
A service to celebrate Gil’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017. Visitation is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at noon.The family warmly invites friends and loved ones to join in commemorating Gil’s life and to share cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Columbus Metro Parks or the Columbus Zoo, honoring Gil’s deep love for nature and God’s creation.
