Eugene “Gene” Charles Bentley, aged 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Hilliard, Ohio, on August 27, 2024. Born on February 20, 1951, in Albany, New York, Gene was known for his love for his family and his work ethic.
Gene is survived by his beloved daughters, Jessica (Everett) Coy-Barnes and Heather (Robert) Dowty, and his cherished grandchildren: Katelyn Coy and Lindsay, Benjamin, and Joshua Dowty. He also leaves behind his step-grandchildren, Evan and Madeline Barnes, his nephews Jeffery Jones and Michael (Josie) Hazelton-Boyle, and his nieces Kayla (Adam) Boyle and Shauna (Chad) Fleck. Gene shared his life with his loving partner, Brenda Tustin, and was a devoted brother to his sisters, Patti Boyle and Barbara (LeRoy) Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Harold Bentley.
Gene had a fulfilling career as a data processing specialist, working for IBM and Sears. His analytical mind was matched by his passion for life, which was evident in his many hobbies. While Gene loved cars, his heart truly belonged to his Porsche and Corvette. His enthusiasm for racing was well-known among those close to him. He found pleasure in the simple things as well, like savoring a good cigar and enjoying a fine glass of wine. His love for photography allowed him to capture the beauty of life’s moments through his lens. Gene also found solace in nature, whether it was hiking the great outdoors, tending to his garden, or simply enjoying the tranquility of trees where he found peace. Above all, his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, whom he loved dearly.
Gene will be remembered by friends, family and colleagues for his sharp wit, gift to make people laugh, and his amazing smile.
Gene's love for saving money was unparalleled—he would take us anywhere for our birthdays, as long as there was a two-for-one coupon. This practical approach not only made for memorable outings but also taught us valuable lessons in financial responsibility.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on September 3rd at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The family kindly requests that donations be made to give.nationalparks.org, honoring Gene’s love for nature and the great outdoors.
His passing is a great loss to all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in his photographs, his nurtured gardens and trees, the hearts of those who loved him, every time someone uses a coupon, and in the roar of the engines of his two favorite cars when his daughters take them out for a drive.
