Born in Allens Mills on June 23, 1921, he was a son of the late Elmer Jesse and Ruth Naomi (Copen) Shick.
Bob was a former employee of Jackson China where he a foreman for 10 years. He also was a retired, self employed home builder and was a life member of First United Methodist Church.
He was a U.S. Naval Aviation veteran where he received two commendary letters. He was a Senior Pilot and Squadron Commander and Group Commander in the Civil Air Patrol and belonged to the DuBois Area, Pennsylvania and National Home Builders Association; Garfield Lodge #559 where he was Past Master three times, Jefferson Royal Arch Chapter, Orient Council of Royal and Select Master Masons and Bethany Commandery. Past Tall Cedar, Knight Mason and Scottish Rite Mason. Charter member of Laurel Valley, past Governor of the Yorkrite College of Free Masonry. Life member of Knight York Cross of Honor.
Surviving is a very special niece: Victoria Shick Reitz and her husband, Gene of Punxsutawney; one great nephew: Robert Weaver and his wife, Cindy of Big Run; three great nieces: Sherri Burkett and her husband, Mike of Cool Springs; Shellee and Lori Miller of Punxsutawney; three great great nephews: Matthew, Jesse, and Samuel; one great great niece: Katy.
Also surviving are his brother: Arthur D. Shick and his wife, Pat of Sharon, OH; a sister: Naomi Bish and her husband, Elwood of Hilton Head, SC; several nieces and nephews and his dogs, Lily and Nicka.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kathleen "Kay" Taylor Hoover Shick, who he married on January 7, 1951 and passed away on July 28, 1997; two sisters, Eileen Newcome and Doris Hutchins; one brother, Elmer Shick, Jr.; a stepson, James G. Hoover and great great niece, Grace Burkett.
Friends will be received at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, DuBois on Wednesday from 2 to 4:00pm and 7 to 9:00pm. A Masonic Memorial Service will be said at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30pm by the Garfield Lodge #559. An additional viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 8:30am to 12:00pm.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 12:00pm in the chapel with Bob's pastor, Reverend Lance Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville where full military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
