Jim “Jimmy” McPherson, born in Bells Hill, Scotland, passed away from cancer on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at 10:45 a.m., less than a year after diagnosis. He was only 49 years old, but he had packed those years with exuberant living. He loved music, his family and his friends. He was passionate about being outdoors and on the move – from skateboarding to surfing, from riding horses to motorcycles, from motocross to off-road four-wheeling; especially on the less-traveled back roads.
Jimmy was the owner and proprietor of a neighborhood bar in Downey named “The Glen.” This was a legacy he inherited from his grandmother Marion McLeod who came to this country from Scotland around 1960. She passed away in 1996. Six years later Jimmy also lost his beloved mother Beatrice McPherson.
Jimmy was one of three sons of Bea. He was predeceased by his brother Simon “J.R.” McPherson, and is survived by his oldest brother Larry McPherson. Simon’s widow, Mary McPherson and Larry’s former wife, Frances McPherson, also survive Jim, and he has always loved them as though they were his sisters.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Jeanette, who shared his love of the outdoors and admired him and his adventurous spirit. Although never a father himself, he dearly loved the nieces and nephews given to him by his two brothers. He is survived by them all: Shawn McPherson and his wife Yvonne; their three children Kristen, David and Tiffany; and their grandchildren Katelyn James McPherson and soon-to-be-born Aubrie Star McPherson. Jimmy is also survived by his niece Michelle McPherson Martinez, husband Robert and their daughter Alicia; and his nieces Bonnie Beatrice McPherson, Mallory Dru McPherson, and Julie Ann Truax.
“Viewing” on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 4 to 8 pm at Miller-Mies Mortuary, 11015 Downey Ave., Downey, CA 90241.
