Mr. Shows was born February 6, 1937, son of the late Leon and Mary Shows. He was a graduate of Luverne High School, Gordon Military Academy, and the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of the football team and ROTC and was elected to Pi Kappa Pi, academic honorary fraternity. Mr. Shows served in the United States Army. He was CEO of Reed and Shows Industrial Meter Repair Company, Inc., for thirty-nine years. Mr. Shows was active in a number of organizations including the American Water Works Association, Rural Water Works Associations in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida, and the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts, where he was recognized for outstanding work in the field. Mr. Shows was a member of the University of Alabama Alumni Association, Tide Pride, the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association, Alexander High School Booster Club, the Adventurers Sunday School Class, and Douglasville First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Shows was also predeceased by his brother Jack Shows and sister Evelyn Shows Summerlin.
Survivors include his wife Betty Bass Shows, daughters Liz Shows, Tanya Shows, Shannon Shows Gagliano and her husband Stephen, and son William George Shows, Jr., and his wife Jennifer. He is also survived by his grandchildren Aelise, Mary Jane, and Ashley Kate Gagliano, and Sophie, Miller, and Charlie Shows.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. from the Douglasville First United Methodist Church with the Reverend John Pinson officiating. Burial will be in Rosehaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Trey Saunders, Mike Axley, David Reed, David Emert, Mac Dodson, and Brad Isbill. Honorary pallbearers are the Adventurers Sunday School Class.
