Samuel Dale “Sam” Griffin, age 83, of Lithia Springs, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023. He was born in Lavonia, Georgia on March 4, 1939, the son of the late Thomas Crayton Griffin and the late Maddie Lou Hix Griffin. He worked in the construction industry—starting out as a brick mason as a teenager and working with acoustical ceiling and drywall and ending his career as a site superintendent for Jerry L. Johnson and Associates. He is a member of a local carpenters Union. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Sam was a devoted Christian. He is currently an Ordained Deacon and member of Central Baptist Church and Larry Roit Sunday School Class. He is a former member of Lithia Springs First Baptist Church and the Good Ole Boys Sunday School Class where he served for over 35 years. He also served with the Boy Scouts for many years as both Cub Master and Scout Master in Lithia Springs. He coached peewee baseball when his boys were younger.
Sam was also devoted to his family. He was one of eleven children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. Two of his pals were his beloved Beagles, Betsy and Bubba. Sam will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Sam was also preceded in death by his nine siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Gallman Griffin; his sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Tiffany Griffin and Wes and Shelley Griffin; his brother, Harry Gene Griffin; his grandchildren: Nicole (Michael) Hebert, Nicolous (Sarah) Griffin, Ross Griffin, Annah (Trey) Thomas, Kristin (Brett) Kilgore, and Tricia (Jake) Andrews; six great grandchildren: Kaden, Julianna, Emery, Brynley, Kennedy and one on the way; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm in Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Charles Gibbs and Reverend Mike Sinyard officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Candy Watson and Tracey Pirkle, accompanied by Robin Dubberly on piano.
Interment will follow in Central Baptist Church Cemetery with military funeral honors. Former Boy Scouts of Troop 555, Chris Blackwell, Russ Ellis, Darien Carruth, Nicholas White, Mike Lee and Gregg Still will serve as Pallbearers. The Larry Roit Sunday School Class are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
