Mary Gertrude "Gertie" Cypher Gould, age 93, was born in Cabot, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Clarence (Lynn) and Margaret Catherine Bauldoff Cypher, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary was married to her beloved husband, SFC "Luke" Wallace Reed Gould of Tarentum, Pennsylvania, on November 17, 1954, and together they spent over 50 years creating a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to their family. During Luke’s 27 years of military service, Mary embraced the challenges of military life, traveling around the world and raising four children. She was a true matriarch, nurturing her family while also pursuing her own passions and goals such as starting a children's nursery in Germany, working for the General Services Administration (GSA), and earning her college degree all while balancing the demands of a busy military family. Her resilience, hard work, and dedication were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, her son John Gould, her son-in-law Joseph Beckom, and her siblings: sister Margaret Cypher Valencic (Steve) and brother Stanley Cypher (Catherine).
She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter Cindy Gould Beckom of San Antonio, TX; her son Wallace Gould, Jr. (Teresa) of Winston, GA; and her daughter Debra Gould Cox of Winston, GA. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Christopher and Jason Gould of Douglasville, GA, Shannon Gould of Chelsea, AL, Amber (Justin) Trotter of Rome, GA, Amanda (Jason) Evanco of Carrollton, GA, John Gould, Jr. of LaGrange. GA, and Wendy Sutton of Greenville, SC. Her great-grandchildren include Jaylee and Josie Trotter, Brody and Brooke Evanco, Derek, Christina, and Isabella Faid, Katlin Gould, Amelia Gould, Emma,Grace and Merci Gould. Mary was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren: Willow, Gunner Sutton, and Theodore Lopez. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends as she was loved by everyone.
A woman of faith, strength, and boundless love, Mary will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 25 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A funeral service to honor the life of Mary Gertrude Gould will be held Monday, November 25 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Whitley Garner Funeral Home with Father Joe Wagner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Disabled American Veterans, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
Mary's legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
