Joe Curtis Little, known to many as “Red”, age 89, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. A native of Georgia, Curtis was born May 31, 1931 in Dallas, Georgia. He was married to the love of his life, Martha Anne (Williams) Little from June 16, 1949 until her passing on February 7, 2018. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He served his home of Douglas County for many years retiring as the Director of Douglas County Emergency Management Services. Curtis was a member of Midway Methodist Church and also attended Liberty Baptist Church.
Curtis played an integral role within the county youth sports programs. He was one of the men who began the Beulah Ruritan Club and served many years in different supporting roles. Furthermore, he was a founding member of the Beulah Little League team. Curtis was an avid supporter of youth baseball and football in the county. You could find Curtis on Friday nights dragging the chains at the Douglas County High School Tiger games. He always enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play a variety of sports.
Curtis was given the acknowledgement of not only a ball field in his honor, but was also awarded a plaque that he displayed proudly in his home as a Georgia High School Honorary Coach.
In addition to his beloved wife, Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Bernice (Beavers) Little; his brother, Jesse Junior Little; his sister, Margie (Lambert) Little; and a grandson, Corey Little.
Those left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Dottie Little; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Little) and Michael Hembree; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Wanda Little; son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Jennifer Little; grandchildren, Becky (Scott) Lee, Brian Little, Angela (Steve) Beatty, Kelly (Great) Moore, Randal Hipps, Jaimie (Cameron) Shaw, Nickolas (Hailey) Little, Ryan Robinson, Adam Little and Sarah Little; ten great-grandchildren, Bennett, Brennen, Braylin, Callie, Joshua, Cooper, Jackson, Abbie, Sam, Ben, Corey Ann, and Lily; his sister, Genell Bryant; a host of nieces and nephews, other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Rosehaven Chapel with Rev. Terry "Yogi" Marbut officiating. A private family interment will follow the funeral service at Rosehaven Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers are Brian Little, Steven Beatty, Ryan Robinson, Randal Hipps, Nickolas Little, and Scott Lee. Adam Little will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
