Hazel Elizabeth Mahaffey, age 98, of Waco, Georgia passed away Friday, December 1, 2023. She was born July 21, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia. Family was first in Hazel's life and she loved spending time with them and cooking for them. Hazel loved life and people—she would talk to anyone she met. She loved to garden and was proud of her big gardens. In her spare time she loved golfing, fishing – both deep sea and freshwater fishing, and gambling in her later years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Effie Mae (Stone) Watts; her husband, James Penly Mahaffey, Jr.; brothers, Louie Watts and Hoyt Watts; sisters, Bertha Cornet, Rosalie Phelps, Lilian Golden and Jessee Notch; and her second husband, Posey Milton Bryant.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Jimmy Mahaffey (Judy), Bill Mahaffey (Renée) and Jerry Mahaffey (Pat); daughter, Deborah Pannell (Steve); nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Anthony Puckett officiating. Following the service she will be laid to rest at West Georgia Memorial Park in Carrollton, Georgia.
