Dorothy “Dot” Queen Driskell, age 87, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on March 28th, 2020 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Edd and Helen Queen. She was born on September 20th, 1932 in Paulding County and moved to Douglas County as a child.
Mrs. Driskell was a graduate of Douglas County High School and served as a nurse at the old Douglas Hospital on Fairburn Road (currently the Douglas Senior Center). She returned to school in 1968 where she earned her RN degree graduating from Crawford Long School of Nursing in 1971 to fulfill her lifelong dream. Her dedicated service did not go unnoticed and she received many awards over the years including Who’s Who is Nursing in 1980 and Nurse of the Year in 1990. She retired from Douglas General Hospital where she worked as a Certified OR Nurse in the recovery ward and as a Post Anesthesia Nurse.
Mrs. Driskell was a beloved member of Bright Star United Methodist Church for 60+ years. She was an active member of the Searchers Sunday School Class. She had many passions in life including her family, the Lord and being an avid gardener who could grow any fruit or vegetable.
Mrs. Driskell is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Henry C. Driskell; son, Rev. Frank Driskell; parents, Edd and Helen Queen; brothers, Claude Queen and Alvin Queen; and sister, Reba Daniell.
Her memory will be cherished by her son, Pierce (Karen) Driskell; daughters, Virginia “Ginny” (Paris) Lee, Helen (Pat) Brewer; daughter-in-law, Barbara Driskell; brother, Duane Queen; sisters, Shirley Lovins, Loretta (Danny) Stovall and Janice McFarland; and many numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Driskell will hold celebration services for her at a later time.
