Mrs. Betty Vaughn Higginbotham passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 86. Betty was born in Arkadelphia, Alabama on October 22, 1936 to Mr. Alpheus Sylvester and Mrs. Essie Mae White. After falling ridiculously head-over-heels in love with Wayne Higginbotham, they married in September 1954. Betty was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Rebekah Baptist Church for many years. After settling in Douglasville, Betty became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was active in the Fairplay community for over 50 years. She was extremely talented and shared those talents with her family and many friends.
Betty never stopped wanting to learn and passed that love of learning on to her kids up until her final days. In addition to being an extraordinary painter, with some of her work having been displayed in cultural arts centers, courthouses, visitors centers, and many homes, she was also a hairdresser, cake decorator, seamstress, quilter, and much more. Her talents were endless, and her home was always open with a meal to share. Her love for Christ was modeled daily through her servitude and the love she showed her family, friends, and strangers.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Higginbotham; parents, Alpheus White and Essie Mae (White) Helton; stepfather, Jason Helton; brothers, Bobby Gene White and Carl Niblett; sisters Wynell (Nell) Parker, and Ann Ryan.
Left to cherish her memory, but to celebrate her eternal life with Christ, are her children; Tim Higginbotham, Ken (Terri) Higginbotham, Ben (Stacy) Higginbotham, Rodney Higginbotham, Jan (Allen) Lindall; sister, Leesa Lewis; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends of whom she dearly loved.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The service will be held in the Rosehaven Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Mike Mallory and Brother Jeff Childers officiating. Serving as Pallbearers are Sam Hendrix, John Higginbotham, Bryson Higginbotham, Tye Wallace, Kyle Stanford, Bryan Harrell, Brian Aul, and Ryan Lindall.
Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest, alongside her husband, at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
